COMMENTS
I chose these three mysterious British bands as my top artists of the year not because of anything they did, music-wise — only Radiohead released any music this year — but because they managed to create a sense of genuine excitement and anticipation, so rare on the downloading know-it-all circuit which is pop music fandom these days. MBV and Portishead are making us want it, bad — claiming they'll release their first new material in years, but making us wait juuuust a little longer.
