COMMENTS
1. SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA - "An Ocean Without Water"
By turns strange, oppressively heavy and beautiful, "An Ocean Without Water" is a song-cycle without boundaries.

2. WATAIN - "Sworn to the Dark"
Misanthropic, blood-covered Swedish Luciferians obsess over flying "into the starless night," but fill the void with riff after storming riff.

3. ALCEST - "Souvenir's D'un Autre Monde"
If every story that begins with "I had the strangest dream last night" sounded like this blissed-out, lost-in-reverie fever-dream, we'd never sleep again.

4. JESSE SYKES & THE SWEET HEREAFTER - "Like Love Lust & The Open Halls of the Soul"
Sykes bites down hard on the simple and simply terrifying prospect of following her heart - under a halo or a flame.

5. PARTS & LABOR - "Mapmaker"
Unhinged, open-source 21st century rock and roll - who says the avant-garde can't have hooks?

6. LOW - "Drums and Guns"
What is the opposite of mellowing with age?

7. NINA NASTASIA & JIM WHITE - "You Follow Me"
A streamlined, expertly constructed refutation of "the power of love," from two artists who seem to follow nothing and no one.

8. VOICE OF THE SEVEN WOODS - "Voice of the Seven Woods"
But then, I'm a sucker for psychedelic, vaguely mystic-pagan neo-folk excursions.

9. BURIAL - "Untrue"
The conscious youth - minority of their generation - reject the code of conduct of their peer betrayers.

10. ELECTRELANE - "No Shouts, No Calls"
End the hiatus.
