I thought you might be interested in this for your Corporate Rock column: Atlanta's 99x is going off the air in two weeks and most of the DJs were fired over the weekend. It's supposedly staying on as an online / HD station.

Whatever happens, it's a huge blow for modern rock in the Southeast, as 99x was the "tastemaker" station for a long time.

Al Shipley commented on Does Indie Need To Be More Influenced By Janet Jackson?, at 4:25 PM on Jul 2
@brasstax: Yeah, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that the heading was at least partially tongue in cheek, but it's still very off-putting (also pretty presumptuous as to Janet Jackson being "new" to any significant number of readers).

@dyfl: All I'm saying is that if you ever try to observe contemporary indie rock as a whole, instead of cherry-picking what seems worthwhile or up your alley, of course it's eventually going to look like a "seemingly infinite wave of faceless, deeply unimaginative indie bands and their tired, worn-out influences." If anything it speaks to Perpetua's naivete that it took him this many years of constant indie coverage to arrive at that observation.

Al Shipley commented on Celebrating 50 States Of Great American Music With The "Boston Phoenix" And Fuse, at 2:58 PM on Jul 2
Phoenix's picks for Maryland aren't bad (John Fahey, The Orioles and our pals Wye Oak), but Fuse's pick of The Bravery (vs.

Al Shipley commented on Hinder To David Cook: "It'll Be Really Good To Hear Your Voice Singing Our Songs", at 12:16 PM on Jul 2
Was the clarification "drummer Cody Hanson (no relation to Tulsa's Hanson brothers)" really necessary?

Al Shipley commented on Beck And Danger Mouse, Hanging Out In Silverlake, Record An Album, at 1:33 PM on Jul 1
@Cheap Shot: A) noone mentioned those bands B) your crystal ball predictions mean nothing, and C) still recording in some capacity a decade after your rise to fame really is not such a rare accomplishment in the music industry that anyone deserves a pat on the back for just that.

It's so nice to have Beck and Danger Mouse working on a project together, it'll cut the time I usually take to avoid them in half.

Al Shipley commented on Jay-Z To Oasis: "Are Your Songs 'Appropriate' Glastonbury Material? Just Checking", at 9:11 AM on Jun 30
Making fun of Oasis will always be awesome, but it would be a lot better if it wasn't coming from a guy who is way too into Coldplay.

Al Shipley commented on No, Really, Don't Call It A Comeback: Candlebox Returns, And Other Has-Beens Aren't Far Behind, at 7:17 PM on Jun 28
@KikoJones: That's a nice theory and all, but the Candlebox album in question that apparently benefitted from payola sold FOUR MILLION COPIES.

Really liking the songs I've heard from Jaguar Love that's releasing an album on Matador in a couple months, not too familiar with the members' previous bands but this stuff is sounding good.

@KikoJones: I believe he was branded with a red "P" at one point, but it was just magic marker and he washed it off.

Don't forget Bishop Lamont, whose entire career to this point consists of him leaking information about Detox because noone has a shred of interest in his own record.
